Topform, a leading kitchen worktop manufacturer based in Gort, Co. Galway, sought a renewable energy solution to reduce electricity costs and improve sustainability.

With its energy-intensive operations, Topform collaborated with Solgrid to integrate a large-scale Solar PV system into its facilities.

Project Goals for Topform Solar PV Installation

  1. Reduce Energy Costs

  2. Enhance Sustainability

  3. Ensure Operational Continuity

  4. Future-proof Operations

The Challenge

The key challenge was to implement a renewable energy system that would significantly reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions without disrupting daily manufacturing operations.

The Solution

Solgrid designed and installed a 232 kWp Solar PV system across five roof sections, covering 1,104 m². The system consists of 470 high-efficiency Q-Cells panels, and 2 high performance Fronious Inverters, producing an estimated 193,348 kWh annually, which equates to 21% of the company’s energy usage.

(Highlight:) Additionally:

  • System Performance Figures: The system achieves 97.5% Direct Consumption of Power, with only 2.5% exported to the grid.

  • Financial Metrics: Over a 10-year period, the system generates a Total Accrued Cash Flow of €791,522.79, with an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 37.15%, and an Electricity Production Cost of €0.125/kWh.

Despite the complexity of the project, Solgrid delivered a turnkey solution on time and within budget.

The Result

  • Cost Savings: A 21% reduction in electricity expenses, with a payback period under 5 years.

  • Environmental Impact: Annual avoidance of 72,176 kg of CO₂ emissions.

Note: Carbon Equivalencies:

Approximately 15.6 passenger vehicles driven for one year.

Comparable to the carbon sequestration of 1,200 trees growing over 10 years.

Matches the annual energy use of approximately 9 average homes.

  • Enhanced Sustainability: Strengthened green credentials and energy independence.

The Solar PV installation at Topform demonstrates how renewable energy can drive sustainability and cost-efficiency in manufacturing.

With significant savings, reduced emissions, and improved energy independence, Topform is well-positioned to lead by example in adopting green energy solutions.

Solgrid’s turnkey approach ensured a seamless transition, reinforcing the company’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility. This project stands as a benchmark for industries seeking to balance productivity with sustainability.
